About
I am Elvis Kwame Ofori, a Ghanaian researcher and writer based in Ireland.
My path has taken me from Ghana to China and now Ireland, and that movement between places has shaped the way I think about policy. I am interested in how national decisions look very different once they reach households, farms, firms and communities.
What I write about
This website is broader than my PhD. I use the blog to think through public policy, economics, science, technology, agriculture and food, Ghana and Africa, Ireland, the United States, books, research life and personal observations.
Sometimes the posts will be analytical. Sometimes they will be explanatory. Sometimes they will simply be an attempt to make sense of something I have read, seen or experienced.
Research
I am a PhD Researcher and Research Assistant in Plant & AgriBiosciences at the University of Galway’s Ryan Institute. My doctoral work focuses on how agricultural, climate and land-use transitions distribute costs, opportunities and constraints across farms and places.
I work within the wider FUSION and FORESIGHT modelling environment at the University of Galway. My doctoral research is supervised by David Styles and Cathal O’Donoghue.
Background
Before moving to Ireland, I completed an MSc in Management Science and Engineering in China. My earlier research ranged across sustainability, energy, development and environmental policy, and that broader background still shapes what I choose to write about here.
